In the Brooder
We have a flock of 8 Rhode Island reds. They are about 1 year old. I have 1 hen that is egg bound. I noticed her symptoms starting this past Saturday (4 days ago) with the runny poop and lots of poop caked on her back end. I removed her from the flock on Sunday after noticing her behavior- hardly moving, fluffed up back end, waddling. She has been in my garage since and has perked up a bit- she eats and drinks a little. As far as helping with the egg I have try the syringe with calcium 2x, a warm bath 3x and using gloved fingers with lube 3x. I can definitely feel the egg in there. Must be too big to pass. Her cloaca is a bit swollen now. I've become perplexed as to what to do with her. I feel like I've done everything the internet has suggested except piercing the egg and i'm not comfortable doing that. How long can she possibly live with an egg stuck inside her? Thanks all!
