As for darkened room, I find putting a blanket over my head and candling underneath works too! Especially when I'm kneeling next to my broody's nest outdoors and can only really candle during the day when she is off having some food.

My neighbours must think I'm a total nutter. Out in the garden in the middle of the day, crouching down in the run with a blanket over my head!!I usually just go into a closet when I'm feeling impatient but this visual made me lol.
She stated it it's in there.The only thing I'd add for the "newbies" is to candle from the fat end/ air cell end. I don't know how many times I've had to tell people not to candle from the side or pointy end....
