egg cartons ?

My local feed store sells them cheaper than eggcartons.com( unless you want 250 or more) I can run in there and get as few or as many as I need.I have several customers that want recycled cartons and give me cartons even more than they get from me.I have 2 different prices..if they return a carton or not..even then once they begin to look used I turn them into kids crafts and grab a new one. New customers or customers I may not get again...farmers market etc I try to use all new cartons..and they are charged for them.
I do prefer to use the styro cartons when I reuse them because they can go in a bleach dip reducing the chance of something transferring to the eggs..who knows what they were exposed to while not here.

Friends and our customers save their cartons for us, so we recycle. I do make my own labels that I put on the lid with the dates the eggs were collected.
Re styrofoam cartons: We now have a couple of outlets to recycle styrofoam cartons. Our county recycling program takes them now, as does Publix supermarkets.

I'm just funny like that, once they leave my hands I don't know where they go or what they go through. I think it comes from my Grand Mother who was a stickler for food and kitchen sanitation.

Would be a good reason to buy styrofoam. You could wash those.

But it is still styro and I don't really believe you could sterilize every nook and cranny. Some even say there is evidence of links to cancer. I will stick to paper, at least it will break down unlike styro that blows all over the landscape forever.

Unless they look bad or worn, I re-use them. Why pay money to buy something when I have ppl. giving me more than I can use? If I have some for a very long time, I will not use those. I will however recycle them in my recycle bin......

Again I'll ask: How do they get dirty? Most people just empty the eggs into their refrig and set the cartons aside. Of course if they use them to hold colored Easter eggs or are obviously dirt, I toss them. Also, I doubt much styro would wear off and enter the eggs. In fact, by reusing them you're keeping them from blowing "all over the landscape forever."

I too reuses the styro ones-scrubbing them in hot soapy water and doing a bleach rinse before the final rinse. I also give my customers a discount when they bring me cartons back. If a customer voiced opposition to this I would certinally purchase paper ones for that customer but the eggs would go up in price....I also don't wash my eggs and am sure to tell my customers that as well. Quick question about selling eggs though. I mark the date collected on the egg lightly with a pencil. I don't always have enough to fill an 18 pack and don't want to write on my cartons since they are reused.

We stick a posted note on the top of the carton when we collect, revising it if there are more than one day's worth of eggs in it. Those small posted notes work great for this.
