This is one of my biggest fears, that I will sell eggs to someone and they will find a fertile one that has started developing.

I have a big bowl in my fridge where I kept all of the banty eggs (I don't sell those). When it gets full I usually make a big batch of deviled eggs to take to work and share with coworkers. In the last batch I made I found a couple of weird eggs that came out solid like the yolk had been scrambled into the white part. And there was one egg that had a chick inside that was pretty far along (feathers, beak, eyes, etc).

All I can think is that sometimes the banty eggs get lost in the coop (buried in shavings, hidden in odd corners, etc) so maybe I picked up a couple that I thought were fresh but had actually been hanging out in there for a while. I have a few 'mobile broodies' that have gotten it into their heads that they want to be moms, but they keep moving around and sitting on whatever pile of eggs they find most interesting at that moment. Whatever the cause, it made me even more worried about accidentally selling a weird egg! I collect twice a day now and mark any eggs that the broodies sit on.
