Egg gathering danger

Y'know cat, that did cross my mind. Then feeding to the chickens crossed my mind. Then hanging on the fence---because there is an Ol' Texas superstition that a snake on the fence will bring rain.

Oh well I just like the way they taste

Don't you think that they taste like ----- ---- --- chicken?

Good for you killing the rattler!

die snake, die....

(I like snakes but not rattlers, or coral snakes, or water mocassins (sp?), or giant Everglades constrictors....)

We only kill them when they come too close for comfort----in the yard or garage. Remember, they mostly will eat things like mice. (but chicks, eggs and maybe hurt a chicken too) Sounds like you have quite an assortment. Like MoonAngel said --- it was beautiful.

Ah, I would have done more than faint!!! There would have been a trail of "something" left behind as I ran as fast as I could to get my husband....YUCK!! Scary!!!

Deja vu!! I ran accross a snake just in June or July. I knew it was hanging around, just didn't know where. Well, I went to pick bush beans one morning, just wearing tenny shoes, no gloves...etc. Got about 10' into the row, reached down, and almost touched it.

It was light pinkish brown with patterns. Well, I stood up, and exited the garden. Went inside, put on leather gloves and black wellies, knee high. Grabbed my 1/2 gallon mason jar, my chicken stick with hook, and headed back out. I also took a brrom handle. Took me 20 minutes, but i wrestled him into the jar and covered it so I could identify it.

If it was harmless, I could let it go. It could go and eat all the mice we seem to be getting. If it was venomous, well......sorry snake. I googled it, and turned out it was a Southern Copperhead. Ouch.

Well, I figured DH would take it and release it somewheres way far away. But no..he wanted to dispatch it. So, we did. I took pictures, but can't figure out this picture thing on here yet. It was 29" long, prob a mature snake.

Did y'all skin it? It's got a purty hide! LoL we have copper heads in tn, haven't seen the first one! I found a great way to make a snake trap. Get a wire minnow catcher and put an egg in it, snakes crawl in but can't get out. Then you don't have to kill them and they can live somewhere else.
