My husband built me a very nice big coop and run this spring. Our chickens started laying in mid August and all was well. We were getting about 12 eggs a day from our 16 hens of different varieties. The last week or so we have only been getting around 6 eggs so we started looking around and the girls have made a nest up on the top of the hay loft, and another under my clematis. Lord knows where else they are stashing their eggs, they all go into the coop before sundown and I let them out in the morning to free range. What else can I do to get them to lay in the nesting boxes?

Most lay in the morning so let them out after they all have laid or in the late morning. That's what my friends did.
