Egg in leg????

Okay, just figured out that emailing the original photos isn't going to work. The 7 originals I took amount to almost 30MB. I'm currently uploading them to Flickr and will post a link once I have one. They display as larger images than here, but not the full size. I can email one or two original images at a time if they still need to be seen bigger than Flicker shows.
For those of you not familiar with Flickr, click on the thumbnail, then there are a bunch of icons shown just above the photo. Click on the magnifying glass to see the larger image.

Here's the link:

I hope it works for anyone that wants to see it because I'm going to bed!

Along with the warm compresses why not make up a
poultice and put on it to see if it will draw anything out?
You could use cut up fresh garlic and add warm water and flour or cornstarch
to make a paste to apply to the wounds.
Probably could wrap it some to hold in place or put a big bandage on it.

Do you have snakes there?
If it is abscess material then you can excise it (jut as you do with bumblefoot) but if it is the musculature (or bone even) that is inflamed then you have a problem > it might be a combo of both even (tumor/oncological considerations aside)
If it were me I would be on the phone trying to find a sympathetic vet (perhaps a zoo vet or one who helps rehabbers) > just be sure to to explain this is your PET and they will be more open to treatment.

Link Works great, I will forward to my friend the Vet and ask his opinion.
I will let you know as soon as I hear something/anything.

Thanks for letting me know the link works & also for sending it on to your vet friend.

The hen looks in really good condition otherwise, nice feathers, getting around well and eating/drinking well. The rooster even wanted to mate with her first this morning (not that she let him). He settled for eating instead.

Thanks everyone!

Im big on putting a hen in the bathtub in some epsom salts and letting her stand around (you have to empty and refill when she poos, so you maybe could have DH do this so as not to be leaning over too much and bothering the baby....I remember those last weeks so clearly and uncomfortable was an understatement)
you can sit on a chair or the closed toilet and read a magazine and talk to her and just let the thing soak for 20-30 mins and see what happens....if you can manipulate it.
It may come to the surface when those scabs soak off and save you alot of trouble. The thing is that you gotta keep cleaning the water if it comes out and if she poos.
If you have anything like oxine its good to put a cup or so in to kill germs. (and I suggest oxine for everything...drinking water, duck pool, spraying the perches...etc...)
you can probably do that each evening and then pack it with neosporin after so use blukote (tho it stains and will stain your bath so watch out!) and bactine!

Let us know what happens....thanks for those pice...very, very interesting.

I think I would just continue to watch it, and do the epsom soaks. Can you put her on a course of antibiotics? My vet gives me Baytril to use on a rare occasion.
If she's acting fine otherwise, I just don't think I'd be digging around in there. Is the area warm to touch?
Because you just don't know what you're dealing with, I'd try to treat it conservatively first.
