egg is stuck inside skin and is hanging on the hens bottom

do yall think i should do half of it in the morning and half in the evening or, all at one time?

Absolutely all at once. The idea is to get her to stop laying by replicating short days and long nights. Shortening both day and night like that would be confusing.

so would it be best to let her sleep through the night and on into the mid day and then take her out and let her stay til bed time? also i would need to maybe let her out in my bathroom to eat and drink in between right.

If the vet said 18 hours of dark and 6 hours of light then do that. Don't put her in your room or some other "not dark place. Keep food and water nearby or in her box and keep it dark. Dark as night, but not necessarily a moonless night. She can and will eat PLENTY of food in the 4 or 6 hours of "ranging" to last her the other 18 to 20 hours of down time to heal. Imagine you had your guts pulled out your bottom. She probably is welcoming the rest, don't push her and do what the vet said.

yes i am doing what the vet said. i am just wondering should i give her the time she needs in the morning or afternoon? i know it doesnt matter but just curious what would be best

I can see why you are stumped on this, I am too. I was thinking about it and my thought was maybe you could let her out in the morning hours (let her wake up with her sisters and do some morning foraging for 4 hours, then bring her in the house until evening. Maybe about a 1/2 hour before dusk, you could let her out to forage and go to bed with her sisters. That sounds like that could work. What do ya think?

yea thats kinda what i was thinking. its just they get up so early i think they came out of the coop around 7. i would have to bring her in at 11 and she would have to stay all day. of course if i did it in the evening she would have to stay in all morning UGH.

From what I have read lately on adding light for those of us who want our chickens to keep laying as the days get shorter...it seems that it is better to turn a light on in their coop in the wee hours of morning (like 4/4:30 am) rather than add the light in the evening. SO...I would think that in order to NOT have Rosey laying, it might be wise to keep her inside in the morning and just let her out in the afternoon. That way, as night comes, it is a natural progression to dark again.

Just my thoughts. I'm still learning about these funny chicken too...

I think it would be easier to let her out in the afternoon, then you could take her off the roost to bring her in for the morning rather than catching her to bring her in.

i thought of that to. just letting her out and stay out til bedtime and roost with her sisters. bring her in, in the morning and feed and let her drink. because most of the time if i have erands to do i usually try to do it in the mornings. even though i dont have to catch her. i squat down pat my leg and she jumps up in my lap I LOVE MY ROSEY. so the morning light is the best light for hens to get to LAY eggs. and evening is the best light for NO LAYING.
