i have maybe 42 birds, 14 production reds, 2 ameracauna, 2 tetra tents. a mix from anywhere of 25-26 weeks and 18+ months. so soposidly i should have an average of 17-18 eggs a day right? but im at least getting 2 eggs a day and the most of 5. before i was getting at least 8 eggs a day sometimes 9 from a random pullet(not the ameracaunas :( so no blue egs). mainly from the pr hens that are 18+months. the rest are relaxing in the shade. after i went on vacation it f=droped to 4-5 eggs a day and once in a while they gave up 8. is any one else getting an egg decrease? some friends of ours just got 400+ pullets and are only getting 4 eggs a day and they have had them for a long time... is there any one in ohio that is having this problem or just a few.
thanks for your imput :)

Hi Elizabeth,

Not sure what your temps in Ohio are---but chickens will eat less when the heat is awful, and as a result they will lay fewer eggs. Water is one of the most important and also forgotten components of successful egg production. Last but not least...if you don't have a regular worming schedule for you chickens check on worms/worming. You may want to investigate other parasites as well such as mites.

Good luck with getting your numbers back up.

THANKS :). It was in the 90s for the past few days but it finally cooled down:) i will look into the parasites. i just hope its something small. they get fresh water everyday. and they get plenty of food. thanks a gain for your advice

i checked for lice and mites and didnt see any. i checked their poo and didnt see any worms... could it be the weather fluxuations? they have clean water and i just put in some ice cubes to help them stay cool... i hope its not any of my neighbors sneeking into the coop to steal any eggs again. but the girls(chickens) just don't seem interested in laying. my roosters are breeding the pullets but not the hens... even the pullets that aren't laying. it just doesn't make any sense

I live in ohio and out of my 4 hens we only get 1 a day, sometimes two. Two of my chickens are just "on break" I think, because they haven't laid in over a month. I'm thinking the heat is a factor, it's been in the 90's almost every day this summer
