Egg missing!!!???!!!

Wow. I have four broodies. I have been super sick with food poisoning today, so I had my daughter go collect eggs. She ran in, excited, because a chick had hatched. I mustered up the energy to go look and she was missing two of her eight eggs. I checked under the other broodies, but didn't find them. No shell, no egg, nothing. Sitting the whole time with all eight eggs, then losing two at hatch time. So strange. I sure hope I don't have a snake.

Again you should look for any gaps or cracks in your coop that something could get in through, and block them.

I'm sorry you have been super sick. :(

Thank you. It's much better today, but I feel like I have been beat with a stick.
Mama chicken has four babies so far, and three unhatched eggs, so only one is actually missing. I didn't see the one EE egg yesterday, but the shell was in the nest this morning. A bantam egg is the missing one.

Aww, the babies must be so cute! I hope you recover completely so you can enjoy them.

When I checked on them this evening two were with Scrunchie (white frizzle) and two were with Ebony. It was originally Ebony's nest, but all four broodies have moved to different nests on different days.

I think the one in front, with the speckled head is a Buttercup/bantam Delaware cross. I think the only chicks we had with Speckles on their heads were our Buttercups and our EE cockrel. The buttercups are very select in whom they allow to mate with them. Only the Delaware and the silver laced Cochin! The other two cockrels in that pen are OEGB and a small bantam barred rock. They get pecked on the head of they try.
:lau
And I am feeling much better, thank you! No more school cafeteria Cole slaw for this teacher!
