Egg Nog (with and without) - for the holidays!

My dd bought some eggnog yesterday and I thought that it tasted better than the usual storebought stuff. I asked her what was different about it and she said that she looked for one that had real sugar in it instead of high fructose corn syrup. I think that must have made the difference. Still, homemade would leave this stuff in the dust.

I'm going to give this recipe a try at the holiday get togethers this year. I see the preparation has some similarities to making meringue. Somewhere I have it stuck in the back of my head that when making meringue that you shouldn't use fresh eggs. I don't know where it came from or why that would be. Would that matter in this egg nog recipe?

We have made this but used different liquor. Hubby told me when he and his brother made this they used Jack D. This year we will try Captain Morgan spiced rum. Should be real good. ****Warning dogs loved eggnog watch your cups. At least choc labs do.

If your meringue is stiff it should last a couple hours but I always wait to the last minutes and prepare it to serve. It never lasts long in the bowl.
