Egg Nog (with and without) - for the holidays!

Quote:
Sorry for the confusion, MissPrissy. We were asking about egg nog. Where meringue came into the conversation was that I made a reference to the preparation of the egg nog reminding me of making meringue. Seeing whipped yolks, whole milk and heavy cream (as well as alcohol for some) are added to what otherwise would be meringue, we just didn't know how long it would hold its consistency.

Many people float meringue on top of egg nog in the punch bowl as part of the decoration.

It never lasts more than a couple hours at my house so I can't tell you how long it will sit in the bowl before it tries to separate. But you need to periodically give it a wisk and keep it n a bed of ice if it is going to be sitting out more than an hour. Warm eggnog is yucky.

OH MY!!!

Just made this recipe last night and truly....oh....my. SO DELICIOUS! The richness and creaminess of the homemade version vs store-bought is indescribable. Thank you for the recipe, we'll be making this again VERY SOON! (well, as soon as my headache goes away from taste testing a little too vigorously

Adding this to my Christmas must-do .. I've never made REAL eggnog before ..

This year we are making Coquito, Puerto Rican eggnog. It's not fluffy but yummy. Traditional is 5 egg yolks, 1 can cream of coconut, 1can milk, 1can sweetened condensed milk and 1tsp cinnamon and vanilla. Add 1/2 c white rum and blend. The neighbor sent some over and I love it. Great as coffee cream too. I will be making mine with cooked egg(think custard not hard boiled) and giving as gifts.
I saw an earlier post re sugar free egg nog and the one thing I know to use is sugar free vanilla pudding, gives you the vanilla and sugar all in one and helps to thicken it up a bit.
