Egg Peritonitis Help

Try doing something different with her feed. You can moisten it. You can ferment it. You might get a kick out of trying the latter. Take a container and pour out two cups of feed. Cover it with warm water just so the water level is even with the feed. Add a little squirt of ACV and place it somewhere warm, as you would rising bread dough. If you use filtered tap water, it will ferment in about 36 hours the first time. After than, using a tiny spoon full of the fermented feed from the first batch, it will ferment in just 24 hours. It's full of natural probiotics and chickens love it.

You need to feed it out in under four days as it degrades and goes flat, losing it's nutrients. You can still feed it, but it isn't as good as when it's fluffy and fresh.
Ok! Sounds fun! Anything to get her to eat it! Thank you!

Please remind me. Is she getting probiotics? How about vitamins? Sometimes a recovering chicken will still act sick because they're weak from their ordeal, having lost weight, and not regained their appetite.

Along with probiotics, try a straight shot of Poultry Nutri-drench mixed into some sugar water. You can stir in a little raw egg, as well, for a real protein boost. The result can often be dramatic.

My sick pullet was improving, and yesterday she regressed and she couldn't stand. This morning, I mixed up a solution of the aforementioned ingredients, and I tubed it into her crop. I left for town shopping and returned four hours later. She's now standing and moving around, and her appetite has improved.
Good morning. Quick little Christmas update. Margaret is roughly the same as past few days... free ranging, won’t eat layer feed but will have certain snacks.. taking lots of breaks throughout the day but hanging in there. I feel so blessed that she is still with us and her quality of life seems pretty good. ♥️ Thank you again for everything! Today was day 10 of the Amoxy so I’ll discontinue that. Waiting for my Corid so I will start that when it comes in. I haven’t seen any shocking poos but maybe just for good measure. I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas too! 🎄

Good morning! Margaret is the same..I was hoping to see a bit more progress. She is still better than two weeks ago but does a lot of standing away from flock and not eating much. She finished her 10 days of Amoxy on Thursday. I stopped calcium about a week ago. Do you think I should do calcium once in a while? I see her pooping but it’s small amounts. Looks quite normal though just very little. I assume because she isn’t eating much? I ordered some Nutri-Drench today and it will be here next week. How do I give that to her? I know you can mix in water but I’m just not sure how much water she is drinking and the other girls would be drinking from same watering can. Can you give them via syringe? Thanks again for all your help! I just feel bad that she is still not herself! Could she be depressed because she isn’t laying eggs? Just curious... 💕

These are the shortest days, so don't be concerned about the lack of eggs for the time being. Also, no need for calcium as long as there are no signs of eggs. If it appears she's suddenly acting like there's an egg slow to want to come out, then give her some calcium immediately.

You can give Nutri-drench any way you wish. You can give around .02ml directly into her beak or mix it with a food item. But remember, Nutri-drench is a short term supplement meant to jump start a lethargic chicken. Long term use encourages diarrhea.

Thank you! This may seem like a silly question but due to her vexing the same for over a week and a half.. is there a chance still for a full recovery? 🙏🏻

Yes, there is a chance for full recovery as long as you see a bit of improvement as each day passes.

If she stays the same as she is now or declines slowly, you need to accept that she may have a chronc health condition.

@Karen1277 Did your girl have a mushy crop at any point with this?
My girl Pearl is having EYP. She is on antibiotics from the vet and an anti inflamatory.
I'm concerned that the meds (and the calcium I just gave her thanks to this thread) aren't getting into her system too well because of the sluggish crop.

I didn’t notice a mushy crop at all.. seems to be performing correctly. I’m going to check again in the morning but no smells coming from that area either. Good luck with your girl Pearl! ♥️🐓🙏🏻 do you know what to feel for as far as mushy crop? Not something I’m familiar with myself...
