Egg Peritonitis Help

Her poop returning to normal will tell you she's cleared obstructions. You don't need to see an egg for this. Even more, her behavior returning to normal will be the sign all's clear. You have done a great job for your sweet hen.

Thank you so much! She isn’t 100% by any means but progress is being made! I can’t thank you enough! I’ll keep you updated! 💕🙏🏻🐓

Oh I wanted to mention I put her in her hospital box and tried to get her to eat and she didn’t want to BUT then when it was time for bed, I put her in the run and fed all the girls some kale and tomatoes... she ate so many tomatoes! I think she is enjoying being back with her flock 😍

Well.. a pretty good day with Margaret today. She has no interest in being in her “hospital” she get so depressed when I do so I let her free range all day with her small flock. She scratched and pecked a lot of the day however took many breaks to rest. She would just go into a comfy spot and close her eyes but would come back to range. She won’t eat her layer feed at all.. she is eating some crushed bagel and tomatos.. a few bites of corn as well. I see her drink a little in the yard but not sure if she is getting enough water. I gave her some electrolytes as well. Her poop is white now and a little watery. Tonight she didn’t lay in her usual spot with Gertrude. I think she was just too tired to walk to it so I put her there and she layed down. While she is so much better there is something still going on, perhaps it’s the antibiotics making her tired or she is still recovering. I’m still seeing progress, although slow it’s in the right direction. Her eyes look tired and sick.. something missing in her cute face... I hope she gets it back! ♥️🙏🏻🐓

Also.. only because I’m making myself crazy with research... could she have something else going on? Coccidea or something...? 😭

It's possible. Coccidiosis is certainly easy enough to treat. In fact, I'm doing a treatment for it right now in my flock as a recommendation from the hatchery manager I contacted to get feedback on some sick pullets I'm dealing with currently. Corid is just a thiamine blocker and it doesn't do anything else to their bodies.

He also had me treat the entire flock for worms even though there are no signs of them having them. Since the worming, there has been no sign they had worms, and I can now rule that out.

So these are both ways to rule out two very common causes of chicken illness with treatments that are not going to put your hen's body through any significant stress.

You never know what genetic mischief may be taking place in a chicken, either, something that may be causing organ decline such a cancer tumor.

Would you recommend I adjust my treatment for that? Do I continue the calcium and antibiotics? What do I use to treat coccidia... my other girls seem fine but I would hate for them to get sick too...? I checked on them tonight and Margaret for the first time ever isn’t sleeping near Gertie. She is in the same coop but sleeping by herself in different area... this is probably not a great sign. 😔 Corid... is that something I should treat them all with? Sorry for all the questions. I should be happy with her progress but I’m still worrried... 🙏🏻

Coccidia are parasites that live in the soil, but to complete their life cycle. they need and animal host. Chickens enjoy nine different coccidia strains that only target chicken guts. Other strains hit only pigs, and cows have their own. And they all live all over the world.

Buy some liquid Corid when you go the the feed store. Ignore the label that says it's for sheep. You can mix one-teasoon in 2 quarts of water. Mix fresh each day and give it as their only source pf water for five days. You can follow up in a week with half that strength and for five more days. That's it.

If your chickens have never been wormed, it's not hard. Pick up some Safeguard wormer, ignoring it's for goats and horses, and give each chicken a pea size length of paste out of the tube. I squeeze it onto my finger and open the chicken's moth and wipe it off inside the beak. Do it again in 10 days.

These shouldn't interfere with the antibiotic or the calcium, the later she's probably had long enough. Just be sure to hold off on any B vitamins while they get their coccidia treatment or it will nullify any effect from the Corid.

Thank you so much! Is so hard to know what’s wrong! I’ve got to guess that because she is progressing we are targeting something? I have to think the Amoxy is working on something since she seems to be getting better?! She didn’t haven’t any blood in poo... basically just watery and white at this point. I just let them out of coop and she is free ranging with some speed today 🙏🏻🐓♥️ thanks for all the help! Good lucky with your sweet girls too!
