Egg prices and DH's oppinion UHG

TT! :

At the fancy farmers market I've seen them go for $6.00 a dozen. Supposedly organic, but who knows.

What is your hubby's problem anyway, maybe his panties are in a bunch because you are making money.

No No No nothing like that he just doesn't care that much about the money cause we don't really need it. We are not earning a living off of my 10 laying hens and I understand his point. So I don't sell in store cartons because it is not leagal to do so and since we do offer eggs at the farmers market when we sell plants and veggies I don't use the store bought cartons at a booth in the groceries store grass lot. I do offer $.25 off if they return my cartons. I don't go crazy with labels I just use address labels that I get free from magazine subscriptions and donation groups and such. I write the date on a peice of tape and stick it on. So anyway I told him if he would rather give the eggs away that is fine but I would rather give them to the food bank instead. So he says $2 sounds fair after he rechecked the walmart price this morning. He is not a salesman and it just came up in a conversation with a friend / coworker and she was interested in the eggs. So it is all resolved now and no big fight I was looking for a peicefull solution and found it but thank you so much everyone!

A peaceful solution? What is the fun in that? Get back there and yell at him!

Here in MD at the farmer's market they get $8-10 for XL to Jumbo blue and green EE eggs. Free Range go for about $6-8 for the same sizes. That was last year prices. TSC has crumbles for $13.89.

Wow. $2 a dozen for farm fresh chicken eggs? That's crazy cheap. The lowest price I've seen around here for free range farm fresh eggs is $5 a dozen and not even organic as far as I know. We pay anywhere from $4 to $5 for organic store bought eggs. I've seen eggs at the higher end supermarkets that are supposedly from chickens raised on organic pasture. They are over $6 a dozen.

$1.25 is way too cheap. I think you might as well give them away at that point. I'd tell the DH that if he wants to give away the eggs he has a new job cleaning up after chickens...but then again, I do like to argue.

Do not sell for less than $2 to anyone! I sell most for $2,but made the mistake of selling for $1.25 to a neighbor. Now THAT neighbor buys for others at that lower price.

Sometimes eggs sell for 89 cents at the store.I say "Enjoy those eggs, because mine are more if you want them!"

There are times I feel generous and give eggs away for free, but for the most part I am charging $2 now,and limit what I sell to the neighbor getting the cheaper rate!

If dh feels funny about it then sell somewhere else. There are plenty of people who will buy for $2. I think my friend pays $2-$4 for the organic eggs sold at the store.

What are the organic eggs costsing at your local stores? Remember your eggs are still better than those, and way better than the cheapo eggs.

$2 is a bargin and does not even really cover the cost of the chicken care!

Dh would prefer I sell the eggs, but my favorite thing is to suprise a person with some. I have given to the librarian, pizza delivery lady, and quite a few eldery(strangers) I see sitting on their porches daily.

Hello- I am from So. IN too (around the Louisville, KY area). I think that $2 is a fair price. I am not sure where you are, but there are several places around here you can get farm eggs and $2 a dozen is about the going rate.

I don't sell mine cause I only have 5 hens, but I would if I had more. Good Luck!

If anyone asked me for a lower price I would immediately double what I was asking, and add a dollar for every time they protested, and stick to it. eggstra-special price, only for you, one time offer
