I have a hen/ amerucana that finally started to lay and she is about 7 years old she has laid every other day so far. I but 3 of her eggs in the incubator. i have seen the rooster do his business so i think they are fertile but I accidently left one of here eggs under a broody hen for 24 - 36 hours. I was waiting for the incubator to stay stable for about 24 hours so I took they egg from her and the eggs rested for about 20 hrs. will you think the egg will develop? Also will it hatch eariler than the others?

As long as she is laying eggs she will be fertile, sometimes it causes the chicks to hatch late. If you crack open one of her eggs from any time where will be a dot / bulls eye in the yolk if it is fertile.

Here is a pic of what a fertile egg would look like (not my Pic)

okay great i will check it out for her next egg but i do not know how accurate it would be because I have a couple eggs where they have the dots but i did not have a rooster at the time but hope I am just rembember the wrong thing lol

Sometimes the older hens lay eggs that are fertile.... but the eggs are no longer of high enough quality to hatch.

No way to know though... unless you try. I prefer hatching the eggs of older hens.... better genetics... since she has made it that long, and is still laying.
