Hello,
I have a black cooper maran who is about 8 months old. She stared laying in January 15th. She’s been doing this weird thing where she sits in the nesting box, like normal, and then when she’s done and leaves she sings her egg song, but there is no egg in the box. Maybe 3-5 min later, I’ll see an egg randomly in the run. Just on the ground. It’s warm, so I know it just came out of her. And I know it’s her because she’s the only maran I have and the only chicken to lay that deep chocolate colored egg. Why does she just randomly pop out her egg any old place in the run, in the dirt? It’s like she thinks she’s done laying, but she’s not and then it just pops out when she’s pecking around. This is the 4th time that has happened. I checked her bum and it looks normal, no prolapsed vent or anything. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
