egg residue on feathers

My BCMarans has one of those and I only noticed it because I was drying her after I gave her a bath. I was really shocked and I thought it was mites or something and then I thought maybe somebody beat her up, but it didn’t look red, skin just looks like baby skin. I looked it up on the Internet and found out it was called a brooding patch. I thought that was kind of odd because she lays an egg almost every day but I have never seen her sit on them, so I never thought she was broody. I guess it must be an instinctual thing that some chickens do whether they are brooding or not.
