Egg Sales: Some interesting experiences to share

Yep, Wal-mart (wally world) is the cheapest place in town on eggs right now here in Idaho, at $1.89.
26c for cartons is better than I've seen anywhere wildsky, are they nice cartons?
I was quoting a price for a nice clear plastic carton, I admit but even a plain jane carton was about 37c, and the recycled ones that were misprints were even more than that I believe.
I was looking at eggcartons.com since they advertise here.
I would want the clear plastic cartons to try and give my "product" a little better look to go with it's better quality.

I got my egg cartons form eggboxes.com cheapest I could find.

I charge $3.50 a doz, and $5 for 18. I have no problem selling eggs. Nobody has complained about the price one bit.

I think some of you are selling them too cheap. It's expensive keeping these little poopers in feed and bedding and treats and time.

justusnak, I think it's time you raised your prices. Feed is going up you know, and if she doesn't care the price, you might as well make enough to cover your expenses, well kinda anyway.

I sell my duck eggs for 5.00 a dozen, and chicken eggs for 3.00 a dozen. I just started selling a rainbow pack which is 6 duck eggs and 6 chicken eggs. The ducks are a mix of pinkish and green ones, and the chicken eggs are brown. Gives the customer the best of both eggs in one convenient carton, and thay are quite beautiful together.

BTW, I pay 29 cents a carton at the local feed store in a pinch. i am looking to china to get my next order of boxes. maybe go in with a few people. Most the cartons are made there anyway. if you can pool together to defray the shipping cost should be the best way. Have done this with many items in the past.

A reminder to those who do not value their own hard work and effort. Ask a premium and people will pay when they know there is a lot of passion, care and love that went into your product.

You and your product both will earn more respect.

We live in the middle of nowhere and get $5.00 a dozen. Can't keep up with demand.

People will always try to get you to drop to walmart prices. My opinion is, "let them buy at walmart and support the chinese economy!" No wonder they are doing so well while the North American economies are suffering.

the eggs do not come from China but it appears that any money Walmart has is spent there ---

Organic eggs here sell for 4 to 5 a dozen - If you are certified organic towards the 5.00 end.

Maran style dark brown are towards the 4.00 end

Regualr brown/tan 3.00 to 4.00

Seems Martha Stwewart did some show and explained she raises her own eggs cuz everyone wants my eggs --they like the idea I give my chickens baths and try not to use antibiotics etc...

Oh, trust me, I would love to be able to raise my prices. I KNOW my egs are far better than what are in the stores.....however. There are a few people around here, that sell them... and they get 1.50 a dozen. There is one lady selling hers for 1.00 a dozen. Our economy is really bad here, and unemployment is really high. Stores and resteraunts are closeing...and people are just loseing homes left and right. We are a very small country comunity. Mostly I raise my chickens because I love them...the eggs are a plus. I know I will never recoup the prices I put into them...but thats ok...they all thank me when I go out to feed them, by talking to me, and sitting in my lap. Oh, and we have a LARGE chicken farm about 5 miles up the road... Rose Acres. They have 4 or 5 different areas they raise chickens for meat and eggs. Most everyone around here gets thier eggs fairly cheap at the stores here. I think 1.89 / doz. When I raised mine from 1.00 to 1.50...thats when people stopped buying...for a while..now they are getting used to the price, and are coming back. Maybe later this summer...I will try 1.75/doz. See how that goes for a while.
