Egg song from a roo??

I've noticed my rooster acting strange, sorta looks like he's nesting, and telling the girls to lay some eggs.if that's not what he's doing then i guess he's just weird. we are still waiting for fist egg

That's really interesting! I haven't been outside the house when my hens lay yet, so I haven't heard any egg songs, but I am looking forward to it!
Two of my hens (out of 11) have been laying since August 1. The others, based on their comb color, should start being productive soon!

That all sounds completely charming, and makes me wish we hadn't had to rehome our roo, Jack. I would have loved to witness that, although perhaps not some other aspects of keeping a roo...

I do miss him though. Sniff.

Ours would sing the egg song. He would only do that with his favorite hen. He would even sit on the nest with her
while she was laying an egg. It was almost like he was coaching her through labor.

Her girls are only 15 weeks and not laying. How could he be 'Joining' the girls??

Do you have any laying so far(older birds?)? I know my boys always learned it from the girls and always join in when they do it now. I call him the instigator because he always gets everyone else going.. I've never had a roo do the 'egg song' by himself. Maybe the 'My ladies are in danger' scream, but not the egg song! I do have girls that do the egg song when the favorite nest is taken and she wants to lay.. then they all pick up again after they lay.

That's the position I am in as well I have not had an egg yet and none of the girls have started to sing but he will sing off and on all day and will also crow if he sees anyone That's what made me wonder if he was trying to teach the hens the song.

Nope I don't have any older birds here at my house. All he older birds are at my sisters. When we first started out we started a flock at my sisters house and we shared the chores and the eggs. Her roosters only crow and don't sing the egg song at all. Here at my house I have 12 pullets that are 15 weeks with two roosters the same age. One is crowing the other one will only coo to his girls. I also have 5 7 week old chicks and 13 3 week old chicks.

This rooster will do the egg song and just strut around the yard while doing it. None of the hens are laying yet and none of them do the egg song as of yet. I don't think it's the danger call because they other chickens will stay sacked out in their favorite spots in the yard just laying around while he does it and don't seem concerned. He is also a very pushy roo with the girls as well though and tend to bite them and hurt them. We have actually considered sending him to freezer camp because the ladies don't seem to like him much and tend to prefer the other larger roo who doesn't crow or talk much at all. He started doing it yesterday and the hens were all listening but not moving which is what made me wonder if maybe he was trying to teach them the song. Just guessing lol.
