Egg Song! Glorious Egg Song!

Lol not to be dismissive but like I said ive done a ton of research and the lights are run along a concreate wall (actually the foundation of my house andthey arent on a timer we physically turn them on in the morning (we are up early anyway) and shut them off (unplug completely) at dawn. I spend most of the morning outside with them as well (even while its still dark believe it or not... we are aware of the dangers and are very cautious I promise :) also I dont plan to run them on 16 hr days all winter or anything like that... im not cruel or mean id just like to get sum eggs going over here..I promise I wont over work them :)

So after finding melodys 3 eggs in the dog house and all the work I did closing off the dog house and putting in nesting boxes she skipped a day and then laid yesterday (where she was supposed too...Yay!) Then skipped today... is that common? Im not upset just wondering and ready for my other two girls to start laying so I can have my steady stream of eggs.. FINALLY! Lol better start quick cuz the hubby is getting thin patience paying for feed for so many "not laying" birds. I however am just finally happy to see progress among the flock

YAY!!!

Very common for them to skip...with new layers so I have read here they can lay their first and even skip a week. Mine are finally starting to lay.... today I got 3 and one was MASSIVE as in 3.1 oz WOW poor girl!!! Dont know which one layed that but bet she thought it was a bowling ball LOL!!! rest of my eggs are 1.6 oz except for the first few they were maybe 2 oz and double yokers!
I have 6 girls all the same age 4 are brown layers ( rocks, Partridge and Barred) and 2 are Chocolate layers (Welsummer and cuckoo maran)
Its so exciting to go out and find the eggs in the nests!!

most of our girlies are still laying everyday... but little miss moneypenny... dances to her own drummer... she's not gone broody again, but has stopped laying consistently... maybe 1 egg per week... and she lays where ever she wants... but she's a lot of fun so i don't mind :) crazy little chicken!

Our 2 white Plymouth rocks do the egg song and the kids get such a kick out of how sweet it sounds! Elsa and Brownie are their names. MJ is starting the squatting so it won't be long before she has joined the group! My first eggs I was so excited I think I squealed out loud!!!

I know I squealed!!!! I still get excited!!!! My barred Rock is what I call a silent layer......she is the quietest layer....hardly here a "peep" out of her and she is back out of the nest and pecking and scratching with the rest of the girls!!!

I got a BIG thrill today, I took an apple out and was slicing it up to give them and I held a piece up over my lap and at different times my 2 barred rocks (betty and wilma) had jumped up on my lap to get a nibble!!!!! I almost squealed with excitement over that!!!!

They NEVER fail to cheer me up when I am feeling down!!!!

easy way to check. When the bulb has been on for a while, touch it. If it's an LED bulb, they don't emit heat and you should be ok. If it does emit heat, I'd be extra careful
