I have five girls and the egg song is heard 15x’s a day. They sing it in the morning, during lay, after lay and just because. Is that normal? It’s a little annoying because they are very, very loud. I can hear them at the furthest end of the house. I know it’s probably annoying the neighbors. They’ve been laying for a month now.

p.s. is there anything I can do to make them not so loud? I have tried music and that doesn’t seem to work.

One of my girls makes so much noise when it comes to laying, she will sing the egg song a few times before she sits down to lay. Then once she has laid her egg (she lays the smallest sized egg) all hell breaks loose, she starts off quietly and then gets louder and before I know it the roosters join in and some of the other hens. It does get very loud sometimes and I've found that by throwing some treats or greens down for them they usually get distracted and stop singing all together. The egg song is a part of keeping chickens and there's not much you can do to stop them. Good luck with your hens!

A rooster might help you out.

Thank you! I do love the idea of giving them greens as a distraction 💖.
