Will chickens sing the egg song long before they are going to lay? I Have 11 ladies and only one so far is laying. This morning it seemed like everyone was singing their hearts out. Should I expect more to start laying soon or where they just copying the lucky lady who is laying?

I can't wait to see the answer. You have me curious....

My gold sex link did it every morning. (before I lost her to the hawk) And she was LOUD, I would wake up to cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck.....BAGAWWWWWK!!!!!! I'd go up there and no egg. She would lay the egg later in the morning. So for whatever reason, she liked to announce that she was going to be laying an egg.

I can only hope. The ladies are 5 mths old and I want my eggs.

I have two RIR hens that do the cluck cluck bawk!, and an EE that sits quietly on the nest, crouches a little and drops a blue egg.
Still waiting on the other six ladies to start laying.

Our bluebelle sings that song every morning at ten to eight. I think it might be something to do with the fact that I come to let the hens out on free range at eight. She can tell the time and is chasing me up!

She also lays very early, so perhaps it co-incides with her laying time too.

I watched my SLW lay and she never made a peep. You should be getting eggs anytime now.

They are probably just singing "Oh what a beautiful morning".

Some of mine sing when they lay and sometimes they just sing. Some are much quieter. My BO's are the quietest. My Brown leghorn is the noisiest.

Well, someone was singing more than just good morning!!!Now I have 2 out of 11 ladies giving up eggs. This one was soft. When I picked it up, it kind of spiderweb shattered but did not break. I did not eat it, but cracked it open to see what condition the inside was and it was very nice looking. Big and bright yolk. The hens all have free range and oyster shell so I am not going to worry about it. Maybe tommorow will be more than two.
