hello, I know someone has probobly already answered this but I couldn’t find it. So I accidentally left the egg turner on all through lock down and it’s the morning of 2 days after day 21 and nothing has tried to hatch, however I candled some of the eggs and the chicks are still alive. Will they still hatch? The egg turner is the kind that sits on the bottom, so the eggs lay on their side and the egg turner just roles them. Thankyou for any help!

so it’s day 24? Did you remove the turner yet? Or increase humidity? Have you checked the temps in your incubator? Low temps can delay a hatch. You need to have a thermometer in there that you’ve checked for accuracy. Leaving the turner on can cause the chicks to be positioned wrong for hatch. But even so by now a few should have already pipped. How many eggs?

It’s day 23 today, the temperature is controlled by a electronic thermostat, I’ve hatched 4-5 batches with it but that doesn’t mean that mabey I became off somehow. The humidity was kept around 50 so I bumped back to 60 like always. I haven’t removed the turner because the eggs lay on their sides on it and I’ve always hatched eggs with it in there but never on like this time. They are still alive so I’m giveing them more time, there’s 40 eggs in there. Still no pipping, so I’m really confused. I assume it would be stupid, but in another day or two would carefully cracking the eggs open help? I know your not supposed to help hatch chicks but I’ve done it before with chicks that had already tried to hatch and had some success.

I would take the turner out and put down paper towels or shelving liner and lay the eggs on that. Chicks can get hurt in the turners. Also I would double check your temps, like I said, low temps will delay hatch. It is definitely possible to help chicks hatch. But timing is very important. At this point I would just give it time and keep candling to check for internal pips. Also you should read this:

So nothing has still tried to hatch, so I’ve tried to help. The chicks are still alive, so for two of the eggs I just cracked a hole in the air sack area of the shell, for another chick I cracked the air sac area and removed the membrane. I did this all yesterday and even tho while the chick that is partially hatched is still alive I do t believe it will make it. As for the other 2, it looked like one of the chicks was trying to pierce the membrane so I made a small hole. However I do hear chirping coming from some where today so mabey that’s a sign! But in 2 days it’ll be 4 weeks and still no natural pipping, and I already have enough eggs to put in another batch, so idk if or when to call it quits for the chicks in the incubator right now. Any thoughts? The temperature is spot on, so I assume me leaving the turner on all through the lock down has caused this.

How did it go when you opened the membrane? Was there bleeding? Did you get the beak out? I’ve wanted to do this a couple times but couldn’t bring myself to try it. Did you locate the peeping? Chicks that hatch very late can have problems so I would see where the peeping egg is and give that one a chance, otherwise if there’s no other internal pips I would call it quits. Also, did you read the link I posted?

I did read the article and it did help! One of the three I helped hatch I removed the bottom part of the shell where the air sack was then removed the membrane. There was some bleeding but not too bad. The other two eggs all I did was make a small hole in the air sack area of the shell and one of them I made a small hole in the membrane. However I discovered last night after I did all this that I was actually correct on my original time and they where not supposed to hatch until tomarrow, so the one I really”helped” hatch probably won’t make it, while the other 2 still might. I feel terrible that I miss read the calendar and did all that too early, but I guess things happen.
