@henless I don't feed layer. A bird that is not laying does not require the same levels of calcium that a laying hen does, and I would argue that even there, each hen has individual needs.
I feed growers pellets to all of my birds after 6 weeks of age; it actually has a better protein content than layer, but most importantly it lacks the high levels of calcium. I also provide mixed poultry grit and oyster shell, in separate containers. This works well for me, as I run a large flock of various ages, with several cockerels, and the birds are able to self-regulate their calcium needs. All-flock feed is not available locally, however I am unsure as whether there is a dissimilarity to grower, possibly again in protein content.
Your silkie is too young to be laying just yet, therefore she does not require the high calcium content in layer feed. I would argue that a silkie, a breed known for frequent brooding, would not suit layer.
