Eggs are a rockin' & I have another pip! **I have new 2 babies**

When they come out of the egg, there is some "ick" left in the egg, and sometimes you can see their "belly button" on their tummy where it hasn't quite closed up after absorbing the yolk. I haven't looked super close at most of their tummies as they hatch, but I have had one that was still kind of attached. I tied off the cord thingy with a piece of clean yarn and the snipped off the cord with sterilized scissors, as I didn't want it to pull its intestines out as can sometimes happen. It's fine now, I can't even remember which chick it was, they're laying age now.

Yes, sometimes there will be a little blood, but shouldn't be much. The tummy thing should close up very quickly if it hasn't already as it hatches.

It is amazing to watch them hatch! I hope you get lots more strong healthy little chicks.

Yes, the belly thing cleared up in a day and now I have two, very active and loud chicks

The last two eggs never hatched so silkiechicken opened them so we could see what happened. They were very close to hatching, one had even pipped, just never made it out. She made some adjustments to the incubator and I now have 24 more little bantam eggs in there and 6 under my broody hen.

Zoo Mummy, I am so sorry you lost your little chick. I learned the hard way myself to give them more time in the incubator where the temp, and especially the humidity are more stable. It does get easier. Good luck with the rest of your babies.

Thank you, yes, it was a very hard lesson to learn but one that I will not make again. There could have been other issues with her as well since she was doing ok up until that night but I will never know
