Eggs are here :)Paganbirds and MagsC's hatching thread!!UpdateMarch16!

Well, as far as the cortunix are concerned, I will let you know as soon as mine start laying. I have reserved breeder pens (just have to go pick them up & pay) for the cortunix so I can keep track of them better. When the weather warm up, I will be ready!
I would like to see the mixed eggs covered by the SF roo from CloverLeaf. I bet those will be some cuuuuute chicks!
You really are crazy.
All those eggs!
You are the perfect example of a "hatching addiction" - truely!
LOL!
You're a great hatching buddy, too!

LOL!
I'm also interested to see how you do with the pea eggs. My luck has been dismal. You'll probably get a 100% hatch! LOL!

LOL, admittedly I am crazy!

My fiance says he is glad I am doing this because there are a lot worse addictions.
As far as the pea eggs, I didnt have luck last year but THIS year I am cranking it into high gear!

Had a busy day.
I checked the eggs, but no pips... or movement... or sounds.
I'm expecting these chicks to be a little late. Maybe Friday. I don't know why, but I just think they will be a little later.
They're in the bottom shelf of the 'bator. The hatcher is still upstairs. I didn't feel like messing with it since I only set around 60 eggs.
Pa Dept of Ag called today.
They said I need to get all the eggs I'm going to hatch by THIS WEEK!
They want me to have all chicks hatched by the end of the month. I didn't have NPIP numbers for all the eggs I just set. Therefore, I will have to wait until all the eggs have hatched & the chicks are a couple of months old before I can get my flock tested for this year.
They also emphasized that I am not to buy non-NPIP hatching eggs.
*sigh*
I must also keep my flock closed for 4 months until all the testing is complete.
I also cleaned out my button pens today.

How are your lockdown eggs doing, Sonew?

Well, I have been around and posted some, but today hasnt been one of my better days physically, pretty wiped out.
Not really anything to report about my eggs, except so far no stinkers, lol.
I have been turning them three times a day.

That would have been a lot to me this time last year!
In the fall, my husband bought me a cabinet incubator & hatcher set. The 'bator will hold about 60+ eggs per shelf if I use egg trays... more if I just set the eggs on the wire. It holds 4 trays. The hatcher is the same size. Theoretically, I could hatch over 600 eggs at a time.
I like to set each batch on a different shelf and use the lowest shelf (no turner on lowest) as a hatcher. I just rotate my eggs through the 'bator. It makes staggered hatches so much easier.
Right now the hatcher is in my home office... just sitting there.
I didn't really need a cabinet 'bator/hatcher, but I'm glad I have it. DH was able to get a really good deal on them.

good for you! Im hoping by the end of this year I can get my huge one up and running-I thinkit will hold over 100-I might do 1 final big shabang hatch before Spring truly hits-and throw those suckers in the heated garage and not in my house this time:-)

How do you handle humidity with using the bottom tray as a hatcher? I'm probably getting one soon as well, and was just going to use my 2 hovabators as hatchers, but wondering if doing it all together mght be easier...???
