How many of Phoenix's eggs did I send you?
I have veining in 3/8 of the duck eggs... they are the darker eggs. Do you see veining in any of the lighter duck eggs?

You sent me four of Phoenix's eggs, apparently shipping didnt take its toll on them.

I am still amazed by the SIZE!!!!
I only candled a few eggs, I get nervous and shakey, dont want to drop them.

The duck egg I saw veining it (it was the last one I candled) is quite light? I dont think any of mine are what you would call dark.

Well, 5 of the eggs are really light. The other 3 are still light, but you can tell that they are different... just a tad bit darker.

ETA: I set 3 of Phoenix's eggs... it will be interesting to see what her chicks look like. She is supposed to lay green eggs. All her sisters laid green eggs. The rooster that she "hangs" with is a blue auracana/BR cross. He hatched from a blue egg. I'm not sure, but there might be a chance that Phoenix's chicks could lay blue/green eggs... at least the gene is in there somewhere!

I am looking forward to comparing notes on that.

When did Phoenix start laying?

Ummm... let see... I think probably about August or Sept of 2008. She's a pretty good layer. I had hatched one of her chicks last year (she was with a SLW rooster) and the pullet that hatched "Phoebe" was one of my favorites. We lost Phoebe last year... eggbound.
She was pretty though. Muffed & very fluffy. Curious & outgoing - we actually thought she was going to be a roo!
Here's Phoenix:

She's prissy. And she likes to go broody. If I don't collect eggs several times a day, she'll have them all collected under her. If she gets up to eat... she goes running for the nest when she sees me coming 'cause she knows I'll get her eggs!

Oooo...pretty.....

I hope I can get a hen that looks similiar.
Refresh my memory, what are her eggs crossed with?

The 2 roos that were in with them were a pure Barred Rock and this guy:

He's a barred rock/blue auracana cross & he hatched from a blue egg. I'm assuming he's the daddy, since Phoenix is one of his favorites.

His mama may have been a rumpless auracana... he has the smallest little tail & no wattles.

LOL, just looking at him makes me smile.

I love that barring too.
Hey, just wondering but what is that one that has some greenish blue on the back? We hatched out some that ended up three of them had that, and I wasnt sure what to tell my daughter they were crossed with. I know black australorp for sure but dont remember if there was anything else.
