Once, I mailed eggs priority to Washington State. They arrived a week later. Know why? They took money for priority and sent them parcel post (I know because I mailed them from TN and they went through Atlanta, where the PP pkg's went at the time. Needless to say, none hatched.)
I mailed eggs from Pa to Ca. They were scanned in Pa the day I shipped them. Two days later, they were scanned in... ALASKA!!
The buyer got her eggs a week later. It remains to be seen in they will hatch or not.
It is a BYCer, so she said she'd keep me updated.
PO was no help at all. Couldn't file a claim & they wanted me to wait to see if they'd "turn up" before I got "upset."
LOL!
Too Late for that!
I hope they do well, but if not, I said I'd replace them.
sometimes things get picked up by the wrong people at the p.o or they deliver to the wrong person. one of my friends had a box of cookies w/ a card sent by her grandma, they delivered it to the corect house number but on the wrong street, the woman who got it called her and said she had her package(after eating over half the cookies and opening the card -probly looking for money)some times the p.o is just way too unreliable

Nope... USPS won't refund shipping cost. They sent my customer's eggs to Alaksa & lost them for a week (were supposed to go to Oregon) and refused to compensate for shipping even though it was their fault. The only way you can recover shipping costs is if you have it insured and you add the shipping price into the insured value. That's what they told me.
The catch 22 is that you can't insure hatching eggs - they're perishable.
