Thats what im going to do. Im going to put an "x" on the ones i think are bad. If they dont hatch i know what im looking at if they do hatch ill have to adjust my conception of whats alive and what isnt.

We will have to compare notes and learn together then. I am trying to learn about doing that, plus I could possibly be getting ducks from a friend (as long as their incubation goes well). So I am trying to learn alot of multiple things at once.

Oh I know that feeling. I had an Americauna and a Polish Crested, so got the hook up on 6 eggs of each. I am hopeing worst case scenario I atleast get one of each breed. I would love to get all 6 of each.

Good luck on your hatch. Keep us posted.

I just put 5 in today... We only have 1 rooster (Buff Orpington), and all sorts of random girls, so I have no clue if these are even fertilized or what they will look like, but I agree... it's like waiting for Christmas! I have never hatched eggs before, so I'm hoping everything works out. My 3 year old is pretty excited to see the eggs hatch!

Anybody have advice for a first timer?

I set 11 Norwegian Jaerhon eggs this past Thursday 8/18... clock is ticking... good luck to fellow hatchers

Good luck to you, I hope you and your 3 year old have fun doing this. It can be a neat project for parents and kids to enjoy doing together. I have me and my wife. Except its normally just me, with my wife shaking her head at me. lol

Too funny... it's usually my husband shaking his head at me! Nobody around here "gets" having chickens. They all think I'm nuts. I would have thought I was nuts too, before I got them. I just adore having chickens. Never would have guessed it, but I love my girls!

My wife thought I was crazy for wanting chickens in the first place. But then I had a friend offer to incubate some eggs for me, so I took them up on the offer. And now my wife sits out there with me and the chickens. They are fun to watch.

We lost some chickens to a predator attack, so the eggs I am incubating now are from the same chickens we got ours from. So she is ok with that. She is just not to happy about the whole 20 eggs situation..

And also not to happy to find out that I might be getting some ducklings from my friends.
