Eggs in incubator 8/22. Anyone else putting eggs in?

ok - here's chicken math for you wife... out of 20 eggs, with luck maybe 18 will hatch. Then, expect a 50/50 male/female ratio. So now you've got a maximum of 9 that you might be keeping. However, you'll have better luck rehoming roosters in pairs, so any excess hens can easily go on CL along with a boyfriend! See - you're down to a normal amount in no time!

That would work, except the fact that I am still going to be getting ducks ontop of whatever happens with this hatch. Plus there is always next year, and now that I have an incubator.

It can be never ending.

and, find other threads about how to hatch in your type of incubator and learn as much as you can from their successes and failures.
My kids love the hatches! The day of pipping and chirping is the best! and, ummm, I have to confess, I thought chicken people were a little odd before I got hens too. Now I can't imagine life without them.

I have a broody sitting on 8-12 eggs. I penned her in on the 21st so the others can't keep bringing her eggs. I'm just giving her food and water and watching to see what happens. The eggs are from 3 barred rocks and 1 RIR. The daddy is a EE Wyndotte mix.

To bad you couldn't have 7 out of 7. But anything is better then nothing.

I am not sure if I want to candle or not. I know it would be useless to keep going with eggs that are no good. But since this is my first time, I wouldn't want to stop on and egg, and then come to find out it was good and shouldn't of been pulled. Or maybe I will candle them, but not pull any and see what ones hatch. So I can learn that way.

You don't have to candle but, if you don't, It's a good idea to pick them up and smell em each once a day. If one starts to stink, get rid of it.

Last batch of eggs are here! 2 lavender orpingtons, 7 frizzled easter eggers, 3 lavender americanas. Letting them rest, then in they'll go!

I set 8 lavender dutch eggs on the 23rd so will join too, I bought 6 off ebay and got sent 8!

I had a fine time fitting them all into an RCom mini 3 egg incubator! Lucky they are very small eggs.
