Eggs in the bator as of 4/4 first time hatcher anyone else?

Well today is day 14 for mine and i will be candling again to check them out. On day 7 i had to remove 3 that were not fertile for sure. I am scared of the maran eggs cause they are so dark and you cant really see what is going on in there so i will just have to cross my fingers they are fertile although from what i could see it looked like they were developing but it's super hard.

I set 6 silkies on the 4th. This is my 2nd go at this. My 1st hatch was on Easter. I had about a 40% hatch rate. I was soooo happy. I really did not expect any to make it. The one thing that I do wish that I had done different my 1st time was that I would have left all the eggs in even the ones I thought were bad...just to check my candling skills. This time I only set silkies. I candled last night and all six look good so far. It is much easier to candle the white eggs. Blue eggs and darker eggs were so hard to tell what was on the inside.

I feel so stupid!!!! I candled my eggs last night and i took out 3 more that i thought were no good now on 2 of them i was dead on but on one which was a french maran egg there was a chick :-( i killed it by mistake! grrr

i am leaving the rest in there till they hatch and if they don't they don't i want to kick myself for doing that.

Well i floated my eggs on Sat day 18 and i have rockers! YAY so exciting so now they are in lock down and the wait is terrible but my humidity is holding steady at 68% and temp at 100 i also candled and i think one is kinda iffy but i left it anyway so here is hoping to a good hatch fingers and toes crossed!

I am also a first timer at trying to incubate eggs. I built my own cabinet style incubator, out of western red cedar. It will hold about 100 chicken eggs. I attempted to incubate about 20 eggs at first, to test things out, I never finished the wood thinking if I had to make changes it was less time invested. Around day 4-5 my door warped and the temp dropped too low, killing the eggs (at least this is my assumption). I wasn't happy with the door anyways, so I put a new batch of 34 eggs in, and screwed the door shut at the corners. I am at day eighteen today, with fourteen eggs that made it through the candling process. I have a rose combed turken rooster (I understand rose combed roosters may not be the most fertile of roosters) I am hoping this is the reason I had so many blank eggs. Candled on day fifteen, every thing seems proper(at least from what I am seeing and reading about) even saw movement in one egg. Will find out on the 26th.

Yeah i started with 16 eggs and i have 5 BC Maran eggs and 4 Ameraucana eggs and one of those i think stopped developing since it looks different from the others. I did the float test though and i know that as of day 18 i have live chicks so we will see what hatches so exciting! Although i did pick the hardest eggs to candle for sure could barely see anything but the air sac but you could see the coverage on days 7, 14 and 18 and i have a few infertile ones for sure then i also killed a chick on day 14 thinking it was a dud kicked myself for that one but none the less i was very happy to have rocking eggs when i floated them so here is looking forward to seeing those babies in a few days

I have my bator in a bathroom that is not in use due to a leak in the tub there is no air flow in there no windows to a great place to put them. I did have to cover the bator with a towel to keep the humidity up but it works.

So today is day 22 and i have no pips nothing nada ziltch should i be worried? I know i had live chicks as of day 18 so i am a little worried. Temp has held steady at 100 and the humidity between 64 and 70% so what say you?

Two ( out of 6) of my silkie eggs hatched last night. I ran home from work on my lunch and had one that is ready to break free any minute and two more that may or may not hatch. They have peeped, but that is about all. I will leave them in the bator for the night and see what happens. Today is day 21 so I am in no hurry to move them.

Awesome! Congrats on your hatch! I just wish mine would hurry up and get here lol. I am picking up 17 guinea keets this afternoon to keep my chicks company you know how that chicken math works lol
