Eggs shipped in...baby diapers!?!

Put the diapers in the bottom of your potted plants (not food) cups the soil, no water leakage on floors and keeps the plants moist.

I use them every spring for the potted plants on my front porch. I buy mine at the dollar general.

Nice idea. preemie diapers (notch cut out for umbilical cord in top) would allow breathing for new egg better than plastic bubble wrap..It may not be better for Mother Earth as Plastic can be recycled and diapers go to landfill.( Unless they are 7th Gen. diapers..ect) which are SO expensive... What about strips of cloth to bundle egg with that fake styrofoam that washes away in sink? Not that I'm some expert on being green or anything..just questions in my head ..I love you guys..

I think there are probably a bunch of ways to re-use the diapers.
Another that I will use if anyone sends me some eggs in them is to cut the leg opening so it lays more flat and then put it plastic side down in the duck brooder underneath the litter. Especially the water container.
That will help to keep the litter and baby ducks drier. As they get older they sure find ways to spill the water.

I am new to shipping eggs. I have never thought about how the eggs are shipped.

I am confused about using Bubble wrap. If the eggs need to breath, would not the plastic stop any air around the egg? It seems like the Diaper is the way to go. Wonder if you could purchase the material in sheets. I could see lots of uses for poultry as well as other pets. Like the pet pads for dog and cat crates. But, like what someone said, about disposal. That is a factor I would consider first.

It's actually a misconception that eggs need to breathe when in shipment, or being stored. All the most recent articles written on storing hatching eggs as well as shipping indicate that the best thing to do is keep them in an airtight container, or wrap them in a plastic bag while storing so that they don't begin to dry down before incubation. While incubating, however, they DO need good air circulation around them so that they can slowly dry down to increase the air cell size before hatch.

I wouldn't think that the diapers would not protect as well during shipping as bubblewrap unless you were to surround the diapers with bubble wrap too. The diapers don't expand until they are wet. They are rather flat otherwise.

ETA: I gotta tell you though, Wynette, when I saw that topic, "Eggs shipped in baby diapers," I envisioned cute little eggs with their diapers on; as if home made diapers for an egg!

Great Idea!!!! I bet the gel in the diapers holds the water until the plant needs it!!! Just like those crystals that you can buy from the garden center that are pretty expensive! I am going to try that this year!!!!
