Eggs shipped in...baby diapers!?!

Finally a good use for a disposable diaper

Isn't bubble wrap expensive and wasteful? In my house my daughter would re-use the diapers on her dolls and teddy bears so would be less wasteful than all that bubble wrap I have gotten in the mail this year

there is really nothing you can do with it after you take out the eggs.

Good point, Holly! Yes, there would be a good re-use for girls & their dollies! And if, in fact, disposable diapers ARE getting more eco-friendly, that would make me feel a whole lot better.

It takes me about 1 1/2 hours to wrap a 24+ egg order in bubble wrap. That's a lot of time wrapping eggs! I bet the time would be cut down by 2/3 if I used disp. diapers! I think I may need to buy some el-cheapo ones just to check it out.

With every baby, I'm always left with an opened but unfinished pack of diapers when they complete potty-training. This must happen to other people, too, because I see them (and adult diapers) at Goodwill every so often. If I shipped eggs only a few times a year, I could do it in diapers easier than bubble wrap.

I could see it maybe for eggs from geese, but, other than that, no way! WAY too expensive, plus it would add a decent amount of weight. Plus, it wouldn't absorb the mess nearly as well as some might thing. Most diapers now have the water polymers in it, so it sucks up any "juices", but nothing goopy or solid.

I could see maybe using the preemie or newborn size, but I'd think the bigger ones would be way too bulky. Might be something to look into tho. Anything that cuts down on egg wrapping time would be great.

What mess? The whole idea is to get the egg to the person intact and not broken..I have had a dozen broken eggs in my mailbox trust me bubble wrap will not contain it

. Still don't think it would be more expensive to buy a big case of those itty bitty dipes than a bunch of bubble wrap.Last point most people ship to me in a flat rate box so what difference does the weight make?
Wynette and hour and a half well appreciated here

Awe..... glad you're happy with them, Holly! Yep, I sure don't mind taking the time to wrap, but...if there was an option that would be quicker and an even better guarantee they'd arrive in good shape, I'd be willing to pay a bit more for the packaging material to save that time!

Bubble wrap is also expensive. I reuse all bubble wrap that gets shipped to me and would probably reuse the diapers. I like the fact that they are breathable and would allow air to naturally permiate ...is that a word? through the egg.

When I ship, I wrap individually in bubble wrap, leaving a small opening on the bottom where the air cell is and place in cartons. I cover the eggs with paper towels, close carton, tape it shut and bubble wrap around it. Folks seem to have better hatches since I changed to the open air cell method. ...now thinking diapers

go make a post on your local craigs list asking for half finished bags of diapers, you'll get dozens of replys. For just a few dollors you'll get tons of diapers and much less expensive then bubble wrap. I also really like the idea of any breakage mess being perfectly contained.

...Thoughs on using baby diapers to ship eggs?...

Hi! I'm all for *anything* that gets eggs from Point A to Point B intact and in hatchable condition.
Hahaha, I have a couple packs of disposable diapers here (bought to diaper house-raised bottle bucklings --- *rolls eyes* don't ask...).
That can be another back-up plan if I run out of bubble-wrap.
