Eggs slightly “jarred” in day 15 of incubation

Thank you all! I still am bummed the one stopped developing am wondering if I did something wrong. We have four at the moment, 2 silkies and 2 Dominique breed hens and all are skittish but I purchased them from about 6 weeks but they had very little handling or human interaction from a young age. They all are blacking out the eggs which is a good sign and the humidity was at 54 so should lower some by the time we get back. I think this being my first hatch and one stopping in development I’m scared I’m going to waste them. Y’all comments made me feel a lot better! Thank you for the replies. We have our brooder ready and still wouldn’t mind if our silkie hen would go broody but I’ve never seen my one rooster who is also a silkie mount her, it’s always one hen and recently watched him try to get the other mixed breed so I’m not sure if she ever will. She is soooo skittish and we purchased her and him both hoping for a more domestic breed.

What’s weird is out of the polish crested we had 7 eggs, 3 never fertilized and one quit? So it makes me wonder if something was going on with the polish eggs. She was wonderful to work with and I heard of other polish crested success stories with her. The Easter Eggers all fertilized with only having 3?

Sometimes there’s nothing you can do about losing an egg part way through incubation. That sucks about your Polish though, especially with those success stories

If you had done something wrong, they all would have quit. So... simply keep moving forward with your incubation. Polish carry vaulted skull, which IMO may make them more prone to "issues".

Just this week I lost a 3 week old and a two week old chick both with their broody mums.. to aerial predators. :barnie

My girls have to fight to keep their nest, and eggs become soiled. I prefer incubating and adopting if I want a broody raised. Plus I hate for my broody ladies to sit and lose condition become shaky and so on. If I already have eggs or very young chicks (under 6 days old MAX), the moms only have to set a few days to a week to get their payoff.

Nope they don't get better hatch rates than me and I don't like being left out of the loop. ;)
I am so sorry about your loss! :( so sad when it happens! We lost a 10 year old dog to a coyote last year and it kills you when Mother Nature involves your pets.

I hAd no idea about that! That could explain them having issues easily. Thank you! It’s funny bc we wanted more polish and ended up with an even amount. I told my fiancé it’s ironic he starts getting into chickens and the ones he wanted all end up being fertile lol

My EE throws 100% fertility and hatch rate (FBCM Rooster). In addition she is a calm lap chicken and her chicks are the FRIENDLIEST ever! :love Demeanor definitely breeds forward. :pop

Thank you.

It bothers me some, but losing my dog like that would have.... almost killed me I think.:hit SOOO sorry for your loss. :hugs

I think your eggs are going to be just fine. I wouldn’t blame yourself for the quitter, especially if all the others are ok. There’s many reasons they can quit. It is a nerve racking time but try to relax and know that you’ve done your best. Chances are you’ll get a clutch of healthy chicky babies! Good luck.

It honestly did! My job sent flowers it was such a traumatic event and a huge loss, but I passed out letters and tried to bring awareness to the neighborhood what all was going on with stocking pets in a wood line in our yard between homes. We have our chickens inside a privacy fence and another fence within it. But I’ve went outside when hearing crows going crazy with a hawk.
