Eggs! Tracking software for kids?

I'm looking for a very simple, basic software for my DD to track the eggs she sells and to whom.

It would be nice if it kept a running total of money collected and expenses- sort of like a bank account.

She is 10 and gets around her XP notebook with touchscreen pretty well.

I did a search for software, but it has breeding and a bunch of other stuff. I'm thinking more like the old 'Lemonade Stand' with tracking the outgoing (food, grit, bedding, etc), the production (eggs), and the income (sales)

We want to teach her self-sufficiency while enjoying her 'pets'

Any suggestions?

Yeah, me too. I'm still looking, but going to tinker a few spreadsheets together, then turn it into a database.

I don't want a big install of any type, so may put together a simple online webpage as a front end and dump everything into MySQL.

The main idea is to keep it SIMPLE so a kid can use it.

An example is put in the date and time and number of eggs and number of waste (broken, cracked, etc). This can be done several times a day if they want.

Another example is to enter the date you buy feed, how much it cost, and when you start using that bag. When it is finished, you enter the last date you used it. This way more than one kind of feed or supplement can be used (ie grit, shells, etc)

Capital expenses like coop and fencing are all separate.

Customers so far are listed name, address, etc and begin date of ordering and end date of orders, with an 'Auto' checkbox that automatically puts them on the order list.

Again, very, very simple so even a 10 yr old can use it- literally

I really wish someone had this already...

If I end up having to build it and there is enough interest, I may allow others to sign up with their own ID/Pwd so they can use it...if I like the way it works!

Cost would be negligible, if any. I'd like to see more kids (ie 4-H) take an interest in the hobby.

PS- Ideas are welcomed, but it must be very SIMPLE to use. There are bigger, more complex programs out there. I'd like to just do eggs.

Dang - you got it all figured out, sounds too complicated for me to build I was just thinking excel and I dont have SQL. I know just enough about SQL to be dangerous. I say "if you build it they will come" I know I will sign up! Get cracking!

I looked at that. It looks good and has LOTS of detailed items, but we're not breeding at the moment or buying/selling chickens. Just eggs

I've seen some things in it I would like to have and if we get into breeding and selling chickens and such (long term plans), I may buy that one.

But for now, need very simple...

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

There was a post with a link that had exactly what you are looking for but could not find it. I considered using it myself but my DD,an aspiring accountant, had already made her own spreadsheet. I will keep trolling around to see if I can find it. It was like a couple of months ago that I came across it. It really broke everything down based on #hens, eggs per day, cost of feed, cartons, bedding as well as income from sales. Cripes I have got to find it now.

That looks interesting. I'd like to take a look at the other software you mentioned, if you can locate it.

FYI, the link to the 2010 spreadsheet on the page you link has an error in it. You have to remove 'Download/' from it and the download works.

The spreadsheet looks simple enough, but would like something form driven.

thanks.
