Also, please note that a "high protein" chicken diet should still not be more than 30% or you run the risk of health issues.
I might try a 20% protein flock raiser, if I wanted more protein than layer (16% usually). I agree with cutting out the treats for now. And will note that someone told me when they found out I raise meal worms that too many would indeed cause nasty flavor. But I'm a treat tightwad so never had it happen yet. I can't control how many bugs they eat on pasture, so I was a little worried.
One other thing... if you are getting an egg a day, you birds aren't molting and you should be checking for lice, mites, or other parasite. Care to post pics? Do you know the birds ages?
