My chickens will be laying very soon! This is the first time I’ve ever had chickens. So I was wondering do I just take the eggs from the coop and put them in the fridge? Sorry if that’s a dumb question. I just want all the info about eggs!!

Yes, that is pretty much what you do. You might need to wipe the eggs off if one of the chickens pooped on it.

Oh my! It seems like it takes an eternity for chickens to get to actual laying age, but once they do its SO worth the wait! While your waiting, read these stories of people gathering there first eggs! Some of them are very interesting! I started this thread when I got my first egg too! Good luck!

I wash mine and put them in the fridge. Seems gross not to. But we use them within a few weeks.

If you wash them you let the bacteria IN. They are laid with a protective coating, which will keep them good for at least a month at room temperature.

You can wash and refrigerate, not wash and refrigerate, or not wash and leave them on your counter, then wash with hot water and a scrub before using.

I leave mine unwashed in baskets I hang on the wall for up to a couple of months.
