My leghorn is second from the left. Would you say she is close to laying? She is 4 months/16 weeks old.
She is probably getting close, it isn't bright red but there is definitely some color.

Oh wow! Thats quick! I will tag youI have never paid that much attention to pullet combs, usually just the adults but I would say a week or so. Tag me when she finally does to see how accurate that is.
Hey! Here is an update. She has not layed yet. Shockingly, our blue splash maran slayed which we weren't expecting. We will have to get rid of Chipmunk (chicken we thought was going to lay) because she has become very agressive. To the point of us not being able to go in the coop without her trying to attack us. Thanks for all the help though!I have never paid that much attention to pullet combs, usually just the adults but I would say a week or so. Tag me when she finally does to see how accurate that is.
You said she is a brown leghorn? Hmmm. Pretty unusual for a female to become that aggressive (I have certainly never had one like that) though the one brown leghorn I had was unusually rough on small chicks which was odd especially since she was raised with the flock by a broody.Hey! Yeah it’s to bad. She sure looks like a light brown leghorn. She’s old enough where I think we could tell if she was a rooster or not.You said she is a brown leghorn? Hmmm. I dont think it would be crazy if it was a production bird.Has anyone heard of a chicken laying at 14 weeks? My dog came out of the coop with a soft shelled, small egg like thing in her mouth (no yolk that I could see) - I never would imagine that they would start laying this early, especially into fall like this. I do have ducks, but the coop is quite a jump up for the ducks so I can't imagine one of them getting in, but I guess its not impossible. One hen has built a beautiful little nest on the floor next to a bale of straw - she doesn't go to the perch like the others...would that nesting indicate she is maturing to lay? She is kind of the loner of the group.
