Are they happy to have laid an egg? Or surprised? Relieved that it's over? Hmmmm I really want to know what they are feeling!

I agree. I have one that has been doing that for weeks now too. This morning I saw her trying to place a feather juuust sooo in the nest box. I thought she was just a loud mouth busy body.

"song" here is used rather loosely... more like "egg holler"... "egg yell"... and sometimes it starts a "chorus" or "group cheer".

First time I heard it I thought something was attacking the flock, the pullet was bawkkawking, a couple of other hens were doing the same and the Roo was answering her just outside the coop, I really thought one of the hens were hurt. Believe us, you'll know it when you hear it!!!
