Eglu Omlet... Thoughts?

Here is a copy of an email I have just sent to omlet. I don’t think I need to say any more.

To whom it may concern,

I have had omlet products including a eglu mark 1 and a cube Mark 1 for about 20 years and have always praised their quality and workmanship. I have defended omlet on forums where standards were questioned. Omlet has always provided high quality products at a high end price. A price I have always believed to be worthwhile based on a reliably high standard.

My friend, based on my recommendation, has purchased a Go with much associated pens. I visited a couple of days ago and was embarrassed when I saw the product.

To say that the quality has decreased is an understatement. I can press lightly on the inside skin of the coop and flex the plastic ! This is not possible on my cube Mark 1. I found the opener jolty and cumbersome and the overall workmanship poor.

I am terribly disappointed as clearly I can no longer rely on a high standard from omlet. I was planning to purchase another cube later this year and have been excitedly planning for it. Having seen the Go I will not be purchasing it but, instead, will purchase a cube Mark 1 from eBay.

I write this letter not out of malice nor expecting anything in return but to inform you that, in my opinion, you should reconsider quality cutbacks. I would have been prepared to pay a higher price for a product that can be relied upon for quality rather than a lower price for something else entirely.

Wishing the best in the future,

Deborah Tutton

Hello Deborah:
If you look in my post on page 1 you will see I have the Mark 2 Cube. I am sad to hear you have been disappointed by the lack of quality in your friends Go. I am not sure if your friends experience with the Go is a one of. My Mark 2 Cube is strong and solid.
Has your friend contacted Eglu, if so what did they say? Have you done a search on the net to see if others have had the same issue?
I hope Eglu sorts it out as they do charge a premium for their products.
Regards from Canada

Please let us know Omlet's response, Debbie.

Thank you for sharing this here.

I have a Mark I cube with a 4m run, as well as different lengths of their fencing. I am happy with my Cube but the fencing has not fared well - perhaps it is not built for strong sun? Initially I thought it was our fault, that it had been damaged by strimming or the cat or dogs, but I have since realised, with the newest fence that I bought (last year?) that this is not the case. I should have written to them. In fact, I still will.

Hi Guys, I have had a response saying that my comments will be passed on to quality control department.
Canada, have you seen a mark 1 to compare ? When did you get your mark 2 ? Early or recently ? I have heard from other forums that the mark 2 is not as solid as the mark 1 but didn’t want to believe it. I have been a huge fan of omlet since they first started. I feel really upset but the Go really is awful. The whole thing is so flimsy. Omlet simply say thanks for the comments and it will be passed to quality control.
I would like to think it’s a one off but I think that’s unlikely as panel thickness doesn’t change from one unit to another.
it’s not often I complain like this but I do feel it needs saying. Wish I could see your mark 2 Canada.

Hi, all!
Does anyone happen to know if Omlet usually has another sale in the spring? We missed the March 2019 sale for the Eglu Cube with long run because we didn't have all my daughter's birthday money donations in in time. I'd hate to order it not on sale, only to have it go back on sale days later! Hope to hear from those who've been following the Cube for a while and can give me a best guess. Thanks in advance!!!

Debby:
I have no way of comparing my Mark 2 against a Mark 1. I had never heard of Eglu until last year I was searching the net for easy to clean coops. I find the metal run quite flimsy and only time will tell how long it lasts. I still feel the Mark 1 is quite sturdy and should last many years. All aspects seem strong and sturdy, the door, hatches, tray, everything seems like a solid build.

Hey there.
Fanatic Cube fans from the US here!
Cube, 2m run. Attached to a 10'x10' kennel with roof, additional home built coop on the other side for rainy day happiness.
It's not a pretty setup, but it works for us. 8 standard birds have decided to live in the Cube :th
