I have been to Cairo and Alexandria visiting my son who was there for over a year. The people have been frightened of the police and security. This has been a police state under the pretense of democracy. It has been the people from ALL walks of life that have had enough-of bread lines, fear,no prospect of employment for young adults,no voice. The internet, twitter, blogs have opened communications within the country and the world.Whoever jumps into the vacuum of power will still have to listen to the Egyptian people.
Not splinter groups or religious sects-but a very real frustrated population.

Yes it's the Muslim brotherhood behind it. They are tied in with Al Quida. That's what I heard anyway.

The Egyptian President isn't able to do much at this point. He has troops on the street, but they may end up on the side of the rock throwers. The police aren't able to control it.

UGH! I know the Egyptians want PEACE but if you cornered them, they WILL fight back.

Do you think it is time for Murbarak to move on? Do they keep their presidency for life?

I cannot contact my niece either and we are very worried for her! She is there with a group of students from Notre Dame for a semester in Arabic Studies. She is getting more of an education than we bargained for!

Who knows. Remember when Iran had all that rioting. Then they had rigged elections. I would bet the current President will step down if the military doesn't back him. I don't think they are run by spiritual leaders like Iran. If the military stands behind the President, I guess the Pres will stay in power. Of course he may bend to the will of the people, but what are the odds?

Things must be pretty bad for them to get so many people together and going against tear gas. I've been exposed to tear gas and there is no breathing with tear gas. Of course it was inside a building with a sadistic Drill Sergeant who got to keep his mask on. I'll never forget that experience.

I know that the U.S Embassy posted an alert well before this even became news.
Just remember that com. is limited for a reason.
You must have a little faith in these matters, as there are people on the ground who know what to do.
Probably one of the few times we would all agree that our tax dollars are used for something useful.

Best of luck

The extremists stayed 100% out of it and off the streets til the other people had done all the work, LOL.

I don't think that was missed by anyone in Egypt.

We shall see, we shall see.

The last paragraph, I remember my sis told me about that on her boot camp. It was definately NOT a pleasant experience at all. All you could do was to mop up your snots, and tears that just literally wash your face off pretty good. You are simply just blinded.

If the extremists stayed out of it, then the people would have a VOICE and maybe making it the country they wanted it to be. Freedom comes with a high price.
