Please get vaccinated for rabies if your physican recomends it. Rabies is fatal in all except for one pretty recent case in a teen aged girl I believe it was in the midwest. You can be symptom free for four months. It still occurs in India and other countries. Google "human rabies" on U Tube and the next thing we hear will be your car peeling out of the drive...or should be.
 
I don't think rabies is that common in NC where Steve is located. Now if it were me here in TX, I would go in a heartbeat! I work in animal health and really don't see many, if any Opossum rabies cases, mostly skunks & mexican free-tail bats.
