Drive your ground rods in at a sharp angle and you will get more in the ground. They don't have to be straight down.

It's more about ground moisture during the summer/dry months. Don't think a angled ground rod down 6' but is 7' long is going to be any better than a 6' rod straight down.

The fence does not need to be a closed loop. Closing the loop will raise your voltage, but will also make it hard to find faults.

Not serious: I would lay a mine field, build a gun tower, arm it with a 50 cal. Dig a deep mote around the coop/run and hire mercenaries to watch over the chickens, day and night.
You may need some air support, incase of hawk attack, and paint camoflague
On each chicken just incase! Maybe then, they might be somewhat safe from predators. But that depends on how ruthless the enemy is!
