electric skillet as incubator- experiment- coturnix quail

I am nervous two in the bator are pipped. One for 24hrs now and the other longer than that. /: i dont want to help and kill them but i would rather help and give em a chance than none ):
None are movin that i can tell. I float tested the three with no pips (cheecked to be sure like five times no pips or cracks and made sure water was right temp). Of those two definitely didnt move and one may have wiggled some.

I helped the 24hr pipped egg.. i had a gut feelin somethin was wrong.. ): dead. I am not sure but i believe it may have gotten "shrinkwrapped" by a temp jump. The other one that had pipped was also wrapped. ): not a nice sight....

So 8 in... 8 viable... 3 hatched... 2 pipped and shrinkwrapped ):

And 3 still in. I am afriad they also died in the temp spike.... the float test was still...

The wrapped ones the membrane was dry leathery and yellow. If another one pips i will help but right now i am not thinkin they will /:

You're looking at this wrong, instead of getting ONLY 3...

I'd say...LOOK She got a 37.5% hatch rate with a freaking electric skillet!!!!!!!!!!

Good Job Kiddo!

Thanks. I mean i am glad i got anythin but i feel bad the poor lil eggie-chicks would die right before they could be out of the crazy skillet-bator.
I was planning to sell these but i kinda feel like their mom now.. and its my first hatch and all.. we are visitin my family and they will go to their new home then anyway. I kinda feel bad too that i only hatched three for my friend to buy. Oh well i guess it just means i will have to really finish my cooler bator so i can hatch more for him ;)

Well, thats gonna happen, I don't care how expensive your rig is. If you're going to hatch, you'll see dead chicks.

(forrestgumpvoice) And thats all I got to say about thayat.

Ya i just mean i cant read the temp or humidity without takin off the lid and it gets alot of airflow so i think this has a much higher chance for that to happen. I am wondering if the third chick wouldnt have hatched and been the same if i had not helped him. Possible.

The temp has been nuts all day. I have been checkin it more than since i first started. I think its the skillet dying. Its an older one and i think havin it on the whole.time has put the beatdown on it maybe.

I am not very hopeful for the three eggs left.. its day 21?.. 22? Ehh i have two counts for some reason i dunno.. its past usual hatchin anyhow.. i am wondering when to call it on these three.

On one of the chicken threads they said to pip it for them in the air sack and touch the membrane. Alive chicks will peep when you touch the membrane. (but I've never hatched anything so I can't say I'm suggesting to do this, just that I've heard other more knowledgable suggest it)
Definitely do an eggtopsy if they don't make it. to go from viable to not is disappointing, but it means it was working!
