Good luck, hcammack! I haven't been able to find a crockpot that goes down low enough. Make sure you run it for at least several hours before you put the eggs in! Let us know how you do.

That is an awesome idea! Going to schedule a yard sale trip this weekend to go skillet hunting!!! My son is going to love trying this out.

I just tried my first hatch with a skillet and started with nine eggs and through the process some were not fertile and others died. Unfortunately I had no success. I'm not sure if it was the humidity or what. I will try again thought since it is easy and the eggs were free.

Sahara-I was just thinking of you and your hatch! I'm sorry you didn't get any to hatch. Review any notes you took and evaluate what may have gone wrong before you try again.

I have to tell you, I mentioned to a fellow hatch-a-holic when he asked if I had an incubator, told him about your skillet method and it sparked knowledge! Goodness, he is going to be checking out your page soon!
Its funny isn't it, sorta a science project!
We used a old fashioned pressure cooker with a 25 watt bulb and a custard cup for water also cake racks to support the eggs (of course, you do not want the pressure cooker to be your families canning one!) using aluminum foil to cover the light. I actually hatched many chicks through my teenage years until I bought a styrophome one.
I think it was more fun with the light bulb!
Thanks for the memories and wisdom!

My recent hatch was in a Brower, 2nd time I've used it. Had the same problems. I have the ac on so the house temp is the same, they are in a room with no sun. I had some bubble wrap on it. And I had 3 thermometers in there and got 3 different temps, and sometimes they were 4 degrees apart!! I thought that fan was supposed to evenly heat the bator. I was so glad when that hatch was over. It was driving me nuts. I ended up with 2 out of 8.
