I'm using the Accurite that is so popular here. Walmart carries them. You can check the hygrometer part by mixing a little water with some salt in a bowl, so it makes a paste like, and putting the bowl and hygrometer in a freezer ziploc bag for 8 hours. It should read 75%. If not then make a not by how much it is off and which direction and take that into consideration when doing your readings.

You measure the temp at the top of the eggs. You can do this by turning an egg carton upside down and laying your thermometer on it or by finding a small block of wood that height and put the thermomter on it. With the Accurite I have it has a loop and I put a nail in the board to put the loop over so it wouldn't accidently get knocked off. The only draw back I have had with this thermometer is the 10 o'clock hour. It has a clock in it and during the 10 o'clock hour that always seems to catch my attention first. At the wrong time your temps are way to high until it dawns that your looking at the clock part!

Okay I found my fry pan unfortunately it has a metal solid top. But hey it should work right?

Do you put the wire rack sitting high or closer to the bottom?

I see the towels around the eggs.

now I know this is probably a stupid question but where do you buy the gadgets to gauge humidity? Do they make thermometers that do both?

The wire rack or towels are to get the eggs off the bottom away from the heat source. As you can see with the towels they are placed right on the bottom and eggs on top. I also put in one of those no slip pads for the chicks to have good footing.

They make thermometers and hygrometers in one.

I found a hygrometer at a pet store....I also put a rock with mine with the theory if power shuts down rock will hold some heat.
Too bad you won't have a glass lid!

Well The post I asked about was posting on 9-18- 2007. I would hope your eggs are out of the fry pan by now. If you stated this information later in the thread fine I must of missed it.

Dilly Girl, that doesn't make any sense. Farmer Kitty posted on 4/18 saying she had just put her eggs in the skillet and that it was her first incubation.

You might want to re-check; those eggs should be hatching this weekend !!!!! And we are looking forward to a GREAT HATCH !!!!!
