Elevated food problem!!!

I buy gutter from home depot then drill 1 1/4 holes for chicks to stick their head in and eat in there. When they grow up, they will eat from the top of the gutter tray. I cut wood to put at the ends. So 1 gutter length will make 4 or 5 trays. Way less waste this way.

Now they climb in it an roost... I put a roost in there an they all use it but my one trouble maker. They've doubled in size sence this last post so I need to raise it higher..
Question 2 when they get into the coop do I still need to elevate there food or can it just go in the ground

Hanging the feeders or bunging a rock in an old pie tin keeps the chickens from knocking it over. If they can scratch through sand or earth for the odd insect they will be healthier and consume less store-bought feed.
I hang a feeder and waterer near to where i expect them to roost.
