ELI5 Why do so many ppl treat chickens expendable??

Interesting. That would be a very good reason to avoid store eggs and use home-raised fresh ones!

Now I start to wonder if it is how old the eggs are, or something about the way they are stored, or what the chickens are fed... but I'm pretty sure my curiosity is not worth you getting a bunch of stomach aches testing things!
I read somewhere that store eggs are on average two months old before they’re bought. That doesn’t scream appealing to me.

And what’s the general consensus about sneaking a bird into someone else’s flock nearby? lol kidding mostly
I've had random chickens join my flock before and it doesn't bother me at all. My own are free to leave whenever they feel like it. Frankly if someone has to imprison their animals I don't think they should have animals in the first place

True, but the age doesn't bother me personally. Eggs keep for a fairly long time if properly stored. My issue is with how the birds are kept and happier hens eating better food produce better eggs

My father is like that. He'll eat them if someone else cooks them but won't eat them himself. Meanwhile I greatly prefer my eggs over storebrought. I brought one carton to hold me over until my girls started laying 'cause I finally ate through my backstock. I went for the certified humane eggs and even those were nowhere near as good as mine. I don't get it personally, but to each their own ig
I had my MIL tell me fresh eggs were DANGEROUS to eat! I said only if you’re drinking them raw, but we’re not Rocky.

Mine are "imprisoned" to stay safe from predators, there are lots of reasons to keep your animals in pens.

I read somewhere (I’m putting that on my tombstone) that because of the bloom on fresh eggs, they can last a LONG time.

Honestly I'd be more leery eating a storebrought egg raw. I'm willing to eat my own eggs a bit runny but i'm hesitant to do so with storebrought

Aren’t you concerned about diseases being brought into your flock?
No. My chickens have healthy immune systems. Exposure to the environment makes healthy chickens

I would personally rather live free and die young than live my entire life in a cage. My chickens handle predators fine, regardless
