JJ - I'm hoping for good news on Ellie. Please keep us updated and I hope she just had a yucky day, and will be fine. But it's always good to be sure, and relax knowing you are doing all you can for her care. Poor BJ, hopefully they will be together soon and having fun again. Best wishes for you and your birds.

Thank you Zoo/Jean, Wendy, Luna/Ginny, Steff, SC/Brenda, 1Speckled/Ann - very much for your company and empathy. It really helps. Branda, update below also on the "other side"!

Ellie is still with us this morning - Thursday. She's had 3 days in a row with no eggs (Mon/Tues/Wed) - hoping her body just turned off production because of her illness and not that they are backed up in there. Vet has me giving her 1cc baytril twice daily, tho I worry that I'm wearing too much of it - a drop along her beak line and then she shakes and it's in my eyeball. She rests a fair amount but does not look as near death as she did on Labor Day with head falling and eyes shut. Vet does not know yet what's wrong - we may never know if it self resolves - she could have eaten somethin g bad out there while exploring perhaps. BJ does not seem affected (other than worrying about her and molting big time). Waiting on blood work results.

I checked with Ellie's prior guardian - she had not wormed her. She, now a 4-H leader, said the owner of the feed store, who himself has tons of chickens, told her chickens do not get worms. Makes me crazy, the misinformation given out by feed stores!! Anyway, the vet ran a parasite check and he thinks she's clean. When she's well I will Ivomex Eprinex her.

Today I am nervous because I have to leave now for a meeting in Harrisburg - about 150 miles away - and I won't be back till about 12 hours from now. It's supposed to be about 100 with heat index and I won't be able to check on her or put ice in water etc. Will leave lots of ice in water and some fruit...and of course, fans on.....
Hoping for an egg so we can rule that out as a problem.
JJ

p.s. Here's a visual for you. BJ got a nice long worm - he usually offers these to his lady friend but when no interest was expressed he near swallowed it himself. Then Ellie got it in her head to have it so she grabbed the tiny tip still not down his throat and pulled the worm back out of his throat - ewwww - then she put it on the ground and left it there! BJ, being BJ, let her do it and didn't complain.

Thank you for the update must be driving you crazy, you be carefull driving as I am sure you are not really resting with this worry.

It just amazes me that roo's can be such gentlemen yet most guy's won't open the door for a lady. Me I demand to be treated like a lady, I went somewhere with my daughter and her new boyfriend and he gets in the car and she get's in and I stand by the passanger door and wait. He is like why isn't your Mom getting in the car. She looks and starts to laugh, Jason my Mom is a lady and she is waiting for you to open the door for her to get in. I never seen a Guy move so fast in my life and he beats me to all doors now. LOL

Thanks again for the update I think you'll do fine with you plan to fill the bowl with ice and fruit. Hang in there, praying for you all

Good for you for training Jason!!

Yesterday was Day 4 of no egg so I'm not sure I'm comforted by the vets assessment that there isn't an egg issue. Long day yesterday, only saw them just before bedtime but she seemed content and bright-eyed with good appetite, not like she was struggling to lay an egg or anything. If she has an infection from internal laying or a broken egg the baytril may be masking it at the moment.

Now it's time to go see them, give her meds and head off to work. It will be very hot and humid again. Tomorrow a major storm with high winds and maybe 4 inches of rain - poor things will be cooped up again....

JJ

Cooped up when they are ill is the best thing for them. Believe you me, you don't want them exposed now as in her weak condition she will be slow.

I am saying prayers for all of you. I sure hope this baby gets better. The grief both you and your poor Roo has been going thru is just hard to hear let alone live thru. Sad thing about grief is it never gets easier it just gets different.

Hang in there honey.
